Have you seen this new yarn? It caught my eye at a local craft store and I knew I had to have it. The colors are phenomenal! I will definitely be buying more of this. The yarn is by Caron and is called Caron Cakes. It’s not like the many choices of variegated yarn which are popular now; it has a unique colorblock that looks like you did the work of switching colors, but it was the yarn’s color patterning that did the variation for you. Additionally, there are bonus free patterns (both knit and crochet) which the Caron company has designed specifically to be used with the new yarn. The perfect combination! I’ll give you the details.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • 1 skein Caron Cakes yarn in Lemon-Lime–I found mine at Michaels or you may (find here)
  • Knitting needles size 8
  • Free pattern (find here)

Yes, that’s it! I found the directions on the wrapper of the yarn. You may also find the pattern on the Michaels website (see above). The pattern is a super easy garter, which means you knit stitch only. It goes very fast and really couldn’t be easier. I had exactly enough yarn for the scarf and tassels. Nothing leftover–yay!

Having said all that, I do have one little complaint. I had two flaws in my yarn, which means I had to cut the flaw and re-start knitting right in the middle of the project. I hate yarns flaws! This is not a unique problem to Caron Cakes, I just wanted you to be aware.

Yucky yarn flaws!

I didn’t have much luck finding the new yarn online, but found a wonderful selection at Michaels. I hope you can jump on board and give this a try. I will be using it again in the near future. Love it!
