Simple “Headboard”

I cannot tell a lie; this is not an original idea.  I saw this on Pinterest, but was unable to find the original post so I can’t give the originator credit.  But I still wanted to share this idea because a special request was made by some of my students–“We need ideas to decorate our dorm rooms!” So, this is something I did in my own house that I thought would be cute in a dorm room.

I have such a tiny house that I don’t have a headboard.  I thought I needed something, though, to set off my bed.  I bought a cheap curtain from Target because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money in case I ruined it.  This one was only $9.99–definitely inexpensive enough to give this a try.  I went online and found quotes that struck my fancy, added a few movie quotes and got to work.

I used markers of different thicknesses and took my time writing the text.  The curtain I used has tiny vertical lines I was able to use to keep my lines straight, but I also kept a ruler handy.  Because I’m an English teacher, I believe giving the author credit is important, so the attribution is on the back in the corresponding space.

Since this is over a window, I used a standard curtain rod.  But If you are using this on a wall–especially in a dorm–think about using an inexpensive curtain rod and Command wall hooks.

This was a fun project that took me just a few hours.  I love it!  I hope you give it a try.
