Trying to eek out storage and making a shared space your own can be challenging, especially when you’re on a tight budget. Here are a few things I found to make your dorm experience a little easier.
#1 Bed risers (like these)
Risers give your bed height to allow more storage underneath. The risers in the link above are lifesavers with an electric outlet built in.
#2 Extension cords (like this)
Speaking of outlets, make sure to bring at least one extension cord. They always come in handy and this one has a cord that wraps around itself neatly with space for three plugs.
#3 Command strips (like these)
I can’t say enough about these little strips. They will hang up just about anything and will not puncture or damage walls. You can find any type you need–from balloon holders to wall hooks to picture hangers.
#4 Over the door hanger (like this)
This will give you vertical room in an often neglected space. Use the hooks and shelf or use to hang a shoe organizer (like this). To hang your laundry bag on the door, try this design. Another option is extra hanger space (like this).
#5 Cork covered foam boards
You will need to hang photographs, memos, schedules–you name it. These boards can be glammed up, are very lightweight and thick enough for push pins. Hang these easily with the command strips mentioned above.
#6 Oil diffuser
You may think this is an odd addition to my list. Think for a moment about what a dorm room smells like. Uh huh, that’s what I thought too.
Aromatherapy has been around for ages and is something to take note of. Some scents are known for enhancing memory and thinking skills and others can be mood and attitude boosters. I love this oil diffuser (click here). It has automatic shut off and a separate LED color changing light show. I’ve been using this brand of diffuser for a while and haven’t had a speck of trouble with it. Make sure to use good quality oils like Young Living (click here). Please use 2149856 as your sponsor number if you order from this site. Try purification and joy oil blends for cleaning the air and mood boosting. Lavender is a great stress reliever and choices for memory improvement are: rosemary, basil, peppermint, clary sage and cypress. The diffuser uses only two drops of oil with water and lasts for hours.
I hope this list helps you and you will have a great year!
